Now, That’s a Horse of a Different Color: AI-First Software Will Change the Game

There’s a new generation of software, that is ‘AI-first’ – and, you’re already using itChatGPT, for example, is a software built on an AI platform, attached to a large language model (LLM)That kind of software is fundamentally different than a software program that was created without using AIAI-first software is better suited for the AI use caseAnd, in time, most of the softwares you’ll use will be AI-first software, in the same way that mostly all of the software you use now, are cloud products, built for the cloud. Next up: AI products, built for AI.

This is very similar to what happened with the development of cloud softwareIn the realm of legaltech, most notably: case management softwares, starting with Clio + RocketMatter were built for the cloud – and, have replaced desktop softwares that weren’tIf you’ve ever tried using a desktop software that was converted for use in a cloud environment – you’ll know that that just doesn’t workYou can tell it’s retrofitted; the UI looks old and is more difficult to useThe better move for the vendor – when it comes to revolutionary tech - is to just completely redesign the software using the new tech (in this case: a teardown & rebuild of desktop software, in favor of a cloud version).

The same thing is going to happen now, as the world moves on to tools with AI functionality.  All of these tools that are now focused on embedding AI, will have to rebuild or be squeezed out by AI-first platforms.

Ah, the circle of life.
